KSA #12: Parental Involvement
Director of Tutoring Services Experience
During my time as Director of Tutoring Services with the Education Undergraduate Society of the University of Lethbridge, I had a lot of communication with parents who were involved with our program. This included contacting parents with the initial information about our program, and answering any follow up questions that they made had. Additionally, once a tutor match had been found for their students, I contacted parents to inform them of their tutor match and to address any concerns before the first meeting.
I instituted a check in system with the tutoring program to be followed any of the succeeding Tutoring Directors. This system involved contacting all the parents a month into their tutoring sessions to chat with them about how they are enjoying the program, and to receive feedback on our tutoring program. Additionally, I used this time to get feedback about our tutors from the parents to ensure they were happy with their matches. This proved to be extremely successful because I found that parents were very happy with their tutors, and I made sure to contact the tutor and inform them that they were doing a fantastic job and putting a really great name to the tutoring program we run. Also, I found that parents communicated with me frequently afterwards, because they had already had discussions and contacts with me and they were more inclined to contact me if anything else arose.

Letter of Introduction to Parents
Below is a Letter of Introduction that I sent home with students during my final practicum. The aim of the letter was to let parents know that I would be teaching in their school for the following 4 months, and give them a bit of background on me.
