KSA #5: Differentiation
Differentiation is a key component of every lesson that a teacher will teacher. During my second Professional Semester, I taught a grade 9 class that had a wide range of levels of understanding. Some students in the class were still struggling with number sense, while others were getting very bored of the content because they thought that it was extremely easy. To combat this problem, I decided to have examples on the SmartBoard that we would go over as a class, but I included 4 more harder examples on the side of the board. This allowed me to talk with those students who were struggling with the content throughout the lesson, but also helped to keep those students who were surpassing the rest of the class busy. I found that it was extremely successful in keeping the students engaged while allowing me to micro teach other students.
